Wisconsin Credit Union CEO to Resign for California CEO Spot

The Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire, Wis. said Monday its President/CEO Rudy Pereira for five years will resign April 14 to become the new president/CEO of the $2.2 billion Premier America Credit Union in Chatsworth, Calif.

Royal CU said the move will allow Pereira and his family to return home to Southern California. Early in his career, Pereira worked at California companies such as Hughes Aircraft Co., Hewlett-Packard and served held executive positions with California credit unions such as the $3.9 million Kinecta CU in Manhattan Beach, the $1.7 billion Schools Financial CU in Sacramento and the $3.1 billion Wescom Central CU in Pasadena.

“I certainly understand the opportunity to return home is one Rudy couldn’t let pass and we appreciate the success he has helped the credit union achieve,” Royal Credit Union Board Chair Doug Olson said in a prepared statement “Royal is well-positioned for the future because of Rudy’s visionary and laser-focused leadership.”

Royal’s board is working on transition and succession plans, which will be announced when they are finalized, according to its prepared statement.

Under Pereira’s leadership, Royal CU’s assets grew from $1.2 billion in 2012 to $2 billion at the end of last year, while total loans grew from $1.1 billion to $1.6 billion in the same years, according to NCUA financial performance reports.

The credit union also increased its members from 139,825 in 2012 to 180,346 in 2017. During his tenure, Royal eliminated 69 fees, saving members more than $15.3 million over the last five years

Pereira earned total compensation of $1,059,075, according the credit union’s 2014 990 document filed with the IRS. That total compensation included Pereira’s base compensation, bonus and incentive, retirement and other deferred compensation, nontaxable benefits and other reportable compensation, according the credit union’s 2014 990 document that was publicly available.

“I have enjoyed working with our board, executives and team members to provide exceptional service to our members,” Pereira said in a prepared statement. “I have enjoyed serving Royal’s members in Wisconsin and Minnesota and I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish for them.”
