A new poll appears to have good news for credit union officials pushing for an overhaul of Dodd-Frank—some 63% of those responding agree that a bill to “reform regulations on banks and financial services companies” is a top or important priority for Congress.

On the other hand, only 5% of those responding to the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll said that an overhaul of the nation’s banking regulations is the most important issue facing Congress.

The poll does not specify what banking “reform” might include, so it is impossible to determine if those surveyed favored more or less regulation.

The poll surveyed 1,989 registered voters on a variety of issues on June 29 and 30. It has a margin of error of 2% points.

On banking reform, 26% of those surveyed identified the issue as a top priority, 39% as an important priority and 18% as a not-too-important priority.

The poll found that 6% of those surveyed said that Congress shouldn’t tackle the issue at all and 10% said they didn’t know or had no opinion.

Members of both major political parties identified a banking rule overhaul as important. Some 63% of the Democrats surveyed said it was a top or important priority, while 69% of the Republicans agreed.

When asked to rank the importance of tackling various issues, 28% of those polled said healthcare is the most important, while 21% said that investigating some of President Trump’s campaign officials for their alleged ties to Russia is the top priority.
