A record number of crashers will be crashing CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference in February.

Filene Research Institute’s Cooperative Trust  announced last week that 78 crashers, formally known as young credit union professionals, will attend the industry’s largest conference, thanks to support from several credit unions.

Every year since 2010, Filene’s Cooperative Trust, with generous support from CUNA and state leagues, has typically sent about 52 young professionals to Crash the GAC, which enables them to  network with other credit union professionals from around the nation, expand their knowledge and understanding of the industry and develop their credit union careers.

This year 10 credit unions have chosen to pay their crasher’s registration fee will allow 10 additional young professionals to attend the conference.

In addition, the $7.7 billion Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Bethpage, N.Y.,  the $17.9 billion BECU in Tukwila, Wash., the $2.9 billion Coastal Federal Credit Union in Raleigh, N.C., and the $13.9 billion SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union in Santa Ana, Calif., have chosen to pay for their crashers’ registration fees. The credit unions also have collectively donated funds for an additional eight crashers to attend GAC.

“As we continue to grow The Cooperative Trust and crash opportunities, we’re always challenging ourselves to elevate and advance the program to provide the most impact for young professionals and the credit union system,” said Lauren Culp, manager of The Cooperative Trust. “We know that it’s more important than ever that young people have a voice and are included in the conversation as we look to the future of our industry.”

In addition to Crash the GAC, other crash events held throughout the year are designed to spark new ways of thinking and to build lasting relationships for young professionals throughout the credit union industry.
