Credit Unions Welcome Executives in the New Year

The first week of 2017 brought a number of new hire and promotion announcements from credit unions across the country. Plus, a Florida credit union executive received a business woman of the year honor.

WEST

The $618 million Clark County Credit Union in Las Vegas hired Fred Howard as its first chief technology officer as a direct response to its strategic decision to increase and improve online and mobile capabilities for its members. Howard is a hands-on, business-focused technical manager with significant experience in managing technology solutions for both new and mature companies. He will be responsible for IT strategic planning, IT audits and software quality assurance at CCCU.

EAST

The $470 million First Source Federal Credit Union in New Hartford, N.Y., promoted two members of its senior executive leadership team. Current president/CEO Mike Parsons (pictured) will move into a long-term strategic planning role while maintaining his role as CEO. In this role, he will develop new strategies for the future success of the credit union and will also be chief strategist, and membership and community relations ambassador, and continue as First Source’s chief political advocate in Albany, N.Y., and Washington. Tom Neumann, currently executive vice president/COO, will assume the role of president/COO. Neumann will be responsible for all internal operations and the overall financial performance of the credit union. He will report directly to the board of directors and continue to work closely with the CEO on long-term strategic issues.

The $297 million First New York Federal Credit Union in Albany, N.Y., hired Sayla Eisner-Mix as the school banking program and marketing coordinator. She will be responsible for working with the KID$ Banking Program in area elementary schools, as well as the credit union’s high school branches. Prior to joining First New York, she worked for Self-Help Federal Credit Union in Oakland, Calif., and has worked with community groups for more than 10 years. Eisner-Mix was born and raised in the Schoharie Valley and is pleased to return to the Capital Region.

SOUTH

Jennifer Rivera, business development director at the $569 million Insight Credit Union in Orlando, Fla., was recently awarded business woman of the year by the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Rivera was nominated by the Leesburg Area Chamber members, ambassadors and board of directors based on her overall efforts in making Leesburg a better place to live, work and visit. She is an active leader in the community who is involved with Lake-Sumter State College, Altrusa International of Lake County, Educational Foundation of Lake County, Take Stock in Children and the Boys and Girls Club of Lake and Sumter Counties, to name a few.

MIDWEST

The $274 million Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union in Bloomington, Minn., hired Gregory Worthen as CEO. Worthen has more than 20 years of bank and credit union experience and more than 15 years of senior management experience. His proven ability to effectively analyze markets target areas of highest return and develop strategies to attain goals and develop business will help RBCU continue to provide exceptional service to its members. Previously, Worthen served as the COO/SVP at the $667 million1st MidAmerica Credit Union in Bethalto, Ill.

The $1.1 billion Firefly Credit Union in Burnsville, Minn. hired Geoff Bullock as financial education specialist. In his new role, Bullock will focus on leading workshops for Firefly’s nationally recognized Learn@Work program, while continuing to develop the program’s scope and resources. Bullock comes to Firefly with more than 10 years of experience in financial education including teaching members of the Greater Twin Cities Community various financial topics.

The $3 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa hired Cathy (Vacanti) Alm as branch manager for Veridian’s upcoming location in Papillion, Neb. Alm, a La Vista, Ned., resident and Omaha, Ned., native, was previously employed by the $656 million Centris Federal Credit Union in Omaha, where she was a branch manager for 36 years. Alm has a degree in business administration from Bellevue University.

The $500 million Crane Credit Union in Odon, Ind., promoted Darcy Hedges to compliance manager. Hedges recently celebrated her first anniversary with the credit union. She previously served as a member service representative in Terre Haute. Prior to that, she worked at Old National Bank as a teller supervisor and Fifth Third Bank as a customer service manager.

The $1.3 billion Corporate Central Credit Union in Muskego, Wis., hired Gregg Tushaus as chief information officer. Tushaus is an award-winning information technology expert with more than 30 years of IT experience. He will spearhead Corporate Central’s expanding IT department, working to continually develop and deliver cutting-edge technology to member credit unions nationwide. As a senior leadership team member, Tushaus will also be responsible for providing vision, developing strategy and leading Corporate Central forward in its passionate quest to help members.
