This past week, nine credit unions made announcements about staff members – some revealed new hires or promotions, while others announced executives had been named to boards or committees within the industry. Plus, the NCUA named a new chief of staff.

WEST

The $640 million AltaOne Federal Credit Union in Ridgecrest, Calif., hired Matthew P. Daniels (pictured) as vice president of finance. Daniels brings significant experience in forecasting/budgeting, asset liability management, compensation strategy, corporate planning and analysis, technology-based systems and profitability. Daniels comes to AltaOne from Indiana, where he was been running his own financial advisory consultancy.

The $3.7 billion Bellco Credit Union in Greenwood Village, Colo., appointed Razz Cortes-Maceda to vice president of digital strategy. Cortes-Maceda has more than 16 years of experience in systems analysis, user experience, information architecture and human-computer interaction. She will direct and implement Bellco’s digital strategy, as well as drive the creation of a comprehensive multi-channel framework, including Bellco’s mobile, web and social properties.

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco appointed Robert D. Ramirez, president/CEO of the $1.6 billion Vantage West Credit Union in Tucson, Ariz., to serve on the Twelfth District Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council. CDIAC members generally serve a three-year term. Ramirez will serve as a voice of local financial institutions, bringing to the Federal Reserve their perspectives and concerns on issues including the local effects of regulatory policies.

MIDWEST

The $1.1 billion Firefly Credit Union in Burnsville, Minn., promoted three employees. Rick Blood (pictured) was promoted to SVP/COO. Blood was previously the SVP of member service and has held various roles at Firefly. He began at the credit union as a loan officer in 1998. After briefly leaving the credit union in the early 2000s, he returned to Firefly in 2004 as manager of mortgage lending.

Cole Hahn was promoted to SVP/chief administration officer. Hahn was previously the credit union’s SVP of employment services. She began her time with Firefly in 2002 the human resources manager.

Traci Berhow was promoted to assistant vice president/director of marketing. Berhow was previously Firefly’s marketing manager, but has held various roles within the credit union’s marketing department, where she began as a marketing assistant intern in May 2006.

SOUTH

The $2.1 billion Truliant Federal Credit Union in Winston-Salem, N.C., named Kim Alderman to the role of regional director for the central region. Alderman will be responsible for the management of member financial centers within Truliant’s Central Region. Prior to joining Truliant, Alderman served as a First Community Bank regional manager for Forsyth and Surrey counties, where she oversaw the consumer and mortgage portfolio.

The $147 million Xplore Federal Credit Union in Metairie, La., hired Rafael Rondon as president/CEO. Rondon comes to Xplore from the $681 million Dade County Federal Credit Union in Miami. He most recently served there as vice president of sales and operations, and prior to that as director of sales and operations.  

The $1.1 billion DuPont Community Credit Union in Waynesboro, Va., promoted one employee and hired two others. Jacob Larew was promoted to vice president of retail services. Larew will be leading DCCU’s branch operations and retail support teams. He previously served as a regional manager where he was responsible for five branch offices in Augusta, Rockingham and Shenandoah counties.

Gordon Delaney was hired as vice president of real estate lending. Delaney will be leading DCCU’s mortgage strategy and initiatives. Prior to DCCU he was the first vice president for SunTrust Bank located in Richmond, Va., and was responsible for developing mortgage and lending programs and processes. Shawn Kaup was hired as vice president of marketing. Kaup will be leading DCCU’s marketing and community relations teams. Previously, he first served as the vice president of marketing and public relations at the American Automobile Association, where he managed marketing, membership development and financial services.

Dona Svehla, chief lending officer at the $1.8 billion GTE Financial in Tampa, Fla., was appointed to the CUNA Lending Council’s executive committee. Svehla has more than 20 years of experience in lending, loss prevention and collections. She began her career in 1995 with the $9.5 billion Alliant Credit Union in Chicago, where she established the financial institution’s fraud department, and designed and implemented enhancements to its collection platform.

The $2.1 billion University Federal Credit Union in Austin, Texas named Heather McKissick vice president of community impact and business development. In this newly created role, McKissick will be responsible for leading the credit union’s strategic relationship development with the higher education, healthcare and not-for-profit sectors, as well as within the business community at large. 

AGENCIES

NCUA Acting Chairman J. Mark McWatters named Sarah Vega as his chief of staff. Vega served as McWatters’ senior policy advisor since he joined the NCUA board in August 2014. Previously, she served as senior policy advisor to former board member Michael E. Fryzel and as Fryzel’s chief of staff during his tenure as NCUA board chairman. Vega has an extensive background in the areas of credit union law and regulation, securities law and public policy.
