The Maine Credit Union League announced Tuesday that Todd Mason will serve at its new president/CEO.

He will succeed the league’s President/CEO John Murphy who will retire in June following 44 years of service to credit unions, including 25 years as the president/CEO of the Maine league and Synergent, the league’s subsidiary.

Mason is currently chief strategy officer for RouteOne, an indirect automotive lending technology company in Farmington Hills, Mich. Prior to this position, he worked at the Michigan Credit Union League as vice president of technology, education and marketing and served as chief operating officer for the league’s subsidiary, CU Solutions Group.

Mason also helped launch the cooperative venture League InfoSight, where he served as its chief operating officer.

“His extensive leadership experience, with both a technology organization and working with innovative credit union trade association services, allows Todd to bring unique skills to our organizations,” Rick LaChance, said, the league’s board chair and president/CEO the $37 million Connected Credit Union in Augusta. “Our (league and Synergent) boards look forward to the innovation and service commitment that he will bring to the credit unions we serve.”

Mason will be responsible for serving Maine’s 58 credit unions that are all members of the league. The state’s credit unions serve more than 684,000 members.

Mason also will serve as president/CEO of Synergent, which provides technology services, operational solutions and direct marketing services for credit unions.

Both the league and Synergent employ 163 people.

“I am honored by the board’s decision, and I am fortunate to be taking the helm of a strong organization and legacy John Murphy has created with the support of his staff and the credit unions they serve,” Mason said. “My vision is to build on that, and help credit unions be at the right place, at the right time with the right services, wherever member financial decisions are made. As a result, my focus will be on delivery of innovative technologies to help credit unions serve their members as well as excellence in advocacy, strong governmental affairs, and providing timely education and information.”
