Local baseball fans recently celebrated the history of America’s favorite pastime courtesy of Liberty Bay Credit Union.
To benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham and Wakefield, the $657 million credit union hosted a Vintage Baseball and Family Day in Stoneham, Mass.
Players recreated games with equipment used in 1864, including an original lemon-peel sewn ball that can be caught off one hop for an out without using gloves.
Annmarie O’Neill, chair of the Board of Selectmen threw out the first pitch.
In addition to the two ball games that were played by 1864 rules, there were many free family-friendly activities, including kids’ baseball clinics, running of the bases, a photo booth, face painting, and games. Liberty Bay CU also treated attendees to plenty of free popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones.
Members of the Stoneham Kearsarge, one of the vintage baseball teams, even made time to strike a pose with Liberty Bay staffers and other distinguished guests in attendance.
Staffers also took the opportunity to snap a quick picture of Ed Lopes, president/CEO, Liberty Bay and Cameron Bain, founder of the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham and Wakefield.
