Credit Unions, CUSOs, Leagues Welcome New Talent

This past week, credit unions from coast to coast, plus one CUSO and the Michigan Credit Union League, announced new hires, promotions and appointments. Read on for the latest People news.

EAST

The $1.2 billion Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union in Lowell, Mass., welcomed its newest board member, Sovanna Pouv (pictured), executive director of the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Greater Lowell. Pouv joins the credit union’s board of directors with more than 15 years of experience working for organizations geared toward cultural and social improvement within the local community.

The $514 million Connex Credit Union in North Haven, Conn., promoted Carl Casper to EVP and COO after serving four years as vice president of customer advocacy. Casper offers nearly three decades of financial experience and oversees the retail branch network, contact center, marketing department, consumer lending and compliance function. Since joining Connex in 2013, Casper has significantly expanded the credit union’s products and services.

Melissa Pomeroy, vice president, business information systems manager at the $979 million St. Mary’s Bank in Manchester, N.H., was recognized as a 2017 Rising Star by the Cooperative Credit Union Association and The Warren Group. Pomeroy joined St. Mary’s Bank in 2014 and used her 15 years of project management experience to lead the year-long conversion of the credit union’s core processing system. She has since implemented and continues to lead St. Mary’s Bank’s data analytics.

MIDWEST

The $3.2 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa hired Karen Blume-Shaffer as a core systems programmer. Blume-Shaffer, a Waverly resident, was previously a Developer II at Assa Abloy Doorgroup. She has a bachelor’s of science degree in computer science and mathematics from Upper Iowa University.

Nick Woodard, president/CEO of the $59 million United Savings Credit Union in Fargo, N.D., was named the Credit Union Professional of the Year by the Credit Union Association of the Dakotas. This award recognizes a credit union professional from North Dakota and South Dakota who deserves recognition for their contribution to advancing the credit union movement. At age 36, Woodard is one of the youngest CEOs in the Dakota credit union network. During his four years as president, the credit union has nearly doubled in asset size.

Kristen Davidson of the $858 million Consumers Credit Union in Kalamazoo, Mich., was named the Professional of the Year by the CUNA HR and Organizational Development Council. Davidson was recognized for her ambitious professional and organizational development initiatives that have dramatically increased employee satisfaction and engagement at Consumers. Davidson, who has been with the credit union four years, was recently promoted to vice president of organizational development.

SOUTH

The $607 million Alabama One Credit Union Tuscaloosa, Ala., hired two employees.

Trudi Mullins (pictured) was hired as marketing manager. She brings a diverse marketing portfolio and almost 10 years in the credit union industry to the credit union. Mullins has won multiple awards in the credit union field, including Credit Union Rockstar, 2014, and multiple CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council Diamond Awards.

Matt Sandiford was hired asa mortgage loan officer. Sandiford has years of experience in financial services including time served in credit union branch management, training and consumer and mortgage loans. He’s served as an Adopt-A-School coordinator and pastor in this area and brings a passion for community service to an institution already well known for philanthropic outreach. 

The $1 billion SAFE Federal Credit Union in Sumter, S.C.,promoted Michael Baker to EVP. He now oversees a broad range of the growing services and operations. Baker has worked at SAFE for more than 16 years and most recently served as vice president of operations. Over the course of his career, he’s served in multiple positions. He became vice president of operations in 2015 and spearheaded SAFE’s embrace of the new video-enabled personal teller machines that the credit union has rolled out in Columbia, S.C., and at the Continental Tire facility in Sumter.

CUSOs

Member Support Services, LLC, a CUSO owned by three New Jersey-based credit unions, appointed Joseph Riccardo to president/CEO. Riccardo previously served as chief technology innovation officer of the $174 Aspire Federal Credit Union in Clark, N.J. Riccardo has more than 15 years of experience within the credit union industry and more than 35 years of financial services operations, technology and finance expertise.

LEAGUES

The Michigan Credit Union League promoted Ken Ross from EVP to president/COO. Ross will now be responsible for the association’s affiliation efforts, federal and state advocacy relationships and all association functions. He will be the primary liaison to credit union system organizations such as CUNA and AACUL. Dave Adams will continue in the role of CEO, supervise Ross and report to the MCUL board on association operations.
