The New Jersey Credit Union League said Glenn South, president/CEO of the $99.3 million County Educators Federal Credit Union passed away Thursday while waiting for a liver and kidney transplant at the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.

He was 58.

The $583 million Align Credit Union in Lowell, Mass., announced Wednesday that John J. Crowley, who served on the board of directors for more than three decades, died March 9.

South joined the Roselle Park-based credit union 28 years ago and served as its president/CEO for more than two decades, according to the New Jersey league.

He also served as a treasurer of Symbionce Financial Solutions, LLC, a New Jersey-based mortgage CUSO and had been a senior consultant to the New Jersey league.

In addition to receiving multiple awards for his service to the credit union industry throughout his career, South served as an ambassador to the World Council of Credit Unions and helped charter many credit unions in Russia.

He is survived by his wife Ann South, president/CEO of the $124 million Novartis Federal Credit Union in East Hanover, N.J., son Matt (wife Lana) and grandson Matthew.

South’s final wish was for everyone to celebrate his life together at special luncheon, which will be held April 4 at 12 p.m. at the Galloping Hill Golf Club located in Kenilworth. Please RSVP to Sandy Mullins by emailing smullins@novartisfcu.org or calling 973-947-1000, ext. 122.

In a prepared statement, Align Credit Union said Crowley was a friend and a leader who served on the board of directors for more 30 years and contributed to the credit union’s growth and direction. He also was a member of several board committees and served as chair for two committees.

After graduating from high School, Crowley served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1959.  He was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and worked for Verizon for 39 years until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, children and grandchildren.
