A 45-year-old former employee of the $45.5 million Strip Steel Community Federal Credit Union pleaded guilty to embezzling $82,000 in U.S. District Court in Wheeling, W. Va., last week.

Michelle K. Martin admitted that she stole the funds from October 2016 to May 2017 from the Weirton-based credit union, federal prosecutors said.

Court documents do not reveal Martin’s position with the credit union, how long she worked there or how she concealed her embezzlement for eight months.

However, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office for northern district of West Virginia, said Martin stole the money from the credit union’s vault. When confronted by law enforcement, Ms. Martin made a full confession.

Strip Steel Community FCU President/CEO Sandra Yocum did not respond a CU Times request for comment Wednesday.
